We don't need to recycle plastic bottles. We just need to not use them in the first place. As late as the mid-70s, we drank Pepsi and Coke from thick glass bottles. Milk came in bottles, and orange juice. We turned the bottles in, they were washed and reused. Let's do that again.

In Norway, hard plastic bottles are washed and reused until they start growing weaker - then they are melted down and reused. Thin plastic melted down right away.
But they're always used again in either case, one way or another.
Still, glass-only would help a bit.
