I find it entirely respectable, even wise, not to discuss politics on twitter, not to tolerate ad hominems and not to engage in pointless discussions. I find it weird when people do engage in those things and find it in themselves to be upset about it. Either play or don't.

90% of political twitter is "I can talk shit about all these other people and mock their beliefs, but how dare these trolls attack me?"

Similarly, I understand not wanting people to bring their politics into your feed, but if you start posting about politics yourself... well...

The reason, of course, is usually that some people can't help themselves. Some draw the line (for freaking out) at marital/friendship drama, others at core beliefs, others again at social media presence. The delusion is in thinking it's the *other* people who can't help it.
