I find it entirely respectable, even wise, not to discuss politics on twitter, not to tolerate ad hominems and not to engage in pointless discussions.
I find it weird when people do engage in those things and find it in themselves to be upset about it. Either play or don't.

90% of political twitter is "I can talk shit about all these other people and mock their beliefs, but how dare these trolls attack me?"

Similarly, I understand not wanting people to bring their politics into your feed, but if you start posting about politics yourself... well...

The reason, of course, is usually that some people can't help themselves.
Some draw the line (for freaking out) at marital/friendship drama, others at core beliefs, others again at social media presence.
The delusion is in thinking it's the *other* people who can't help it.

If you're not coerced, there are only ever two options:
Either you're part of the problem, or there is no problem.

(Managing other people's BS, while annoying, is not the same as having a problem yourself.)

All of this may come across as moralistic, but it's not a matter of any kind of moralism. It's simply that this behaviour is self-defeating.
If you want peace, don't add to the noise. It's as simple as that.
Which is in no way saying that it's easy.
