You a buddhist or not, personally? Just asking so I know the context a bit better.
The short answer is non-buddhist perspectives on elements of buddhist philosophy & ontology, especially as interpreted by westerners, but really just in general, are not often welcome.
I know plenty of buddhists who are tremendously interesting conversationalists, even on buddhist topics, but many more who are not (on twitter, especially - in real life the results have been less... pathological, but then I tend to stay out of certain circles).
