I think 80% of this phenomenon has nothing to do with the person saying interesting things or not (I've been called alt-righter and commie alike here on Twitter, FYI).
Rather is what happens when you refuse to take someone's fundamental beliefs for granted in conversation.

You tell me something is either good or terrible. I tell you I don't follow your logic. You give me flimsy ideological argument, I reject it. You label me diametrically opposed to you in politics.
Very few people know how to handle these conversations without losing their minds.

Sometimes, it's maybe a clue that something has been argued in bad faith before. E.g. try talking to an actual alt-righter, communist, buddhist (lol) or other ideologue on a contentious topic online. You'll be misrepresented, insulted and lied about. So you tap out.
So the next time someone says something at all similar, "I know where THIS is going," becomes a convenient excuse to ignore them. Especially if they have a good point, but really just in general.
