The obvious comparison (if he subverts elections) is Erdogan.

So long as we're all stuck on one planet, I don't see how we prevent power structures from doing what power structures do. "The blade itself..." etc.
There is the Corbyn phenomena, driven by social media, do you not think that as social media matures it will offset some of the more authoritarian aspects of power.

I'm Norwegian. I grew up under social democracy. It's lovely. Corbyn lost, though, and he'd need at least two terms to effect real change.
Social media has more authoritarian than anti-authoritarian utility, I'm afraid. Automates ideological profiling, no need for wiretaps.
