Contemplative practices in other religions have degenerated just as much.
Except in monasteries & sects, which Christians also cleave to.

And the case for Buddhism's beneficient/compassionate characteristics is *MASSIVELY* overstated when comparied with its track record.

I'm saying all this as someone who thinks Christianity is a bit passé - all the religions hold up poorly compared with their highest ideals.

Probably also unfair to assume that compassion meditation is necessarily carried out out of individuated compassion and not religious piety.
