On Earth, few things lead to the results you'd expect. I suspect our lack of ability to understand complexity only accounts for so much.

Philosophical thought experiments can put us anywhere in a hierarchy of real or possible worlds: Earth is awesome/awful/Heaven/Hell/mediocre

I tend to suspect it's actually pretty shite, as theoretical worlds go. That you can imagine a place much worse... imagination is grounded.
