The logical conclusion of that line of thought is there aren't right choices, even if explicit goals are present. I don't think that's true.

If I meant "the person is a fool not to follow my advice", sure, but I don't think they are.

But sometimes people are desperate for change and they don't even know where to start. Frustrating to have nothing to contribute but empathy

I don't think it's unreasonable to tell people what you think will happen and why; of course don't impose further, because it's their life.

But if we were all so beholden to each other's subjective truths that we kept from any commentary, I doubt we'd learn that much.

I also know the sort of "advice" where you tell people what they should want and do. But I mean when they share goals and you give pointers.

Which, to my mind, is pretty far from conceited. You are filling a role that person asks for.
