I don't think Norway sucks. I do think many people exaggerate its strengths. Social democracy is a step up the ladde, not much more.

when almost everyone else is stepping down the ladder, it looks good. People gush over Canada & I tell them we're just a bit behind them

I agree. If you're not earning above average or suffering from a strong allergy to liberal values or cold weather, it's as good as it gets.

But my own values long for a society without 40 hour work weeks and statecorporafabricated needs & values (big problems in Norway).

Reason #1 for not going back to Norway is child protection services are out of control, taking children off European immigrants constantly.

They have legal license to show up out of nowhere and detain your children, then to hold them indefinitely for any reason. Don't want that.
