Writer's advice as a genre is of dubious worth, even moreso than general advice - copywriting & other rote writing notwithstanding.

Usual writer's advice 'Less is more, kill your darlings' is bunk. With minimalism & aborted darlings you wouldn't have Ulysses or "Howl."
