I picked that statement because it seems to kick off communists and critics of communism in equal measure, but it applies very broadly.

A great many influential thinkers have been co-opted into ideologies far, far removed from their own stances on pretty much anything.

I'm sometimes glad I'm just an unknown Twitter user. I'd be quite unhappy to see my ideas used to defend ideas I abhor.

My reading list is full of thinkers whose works have been paraded by major ideologies. I expect very low correlation w/said ideologies.

The only cases where correlation seems likely is where the founders of the ideology also led its intellectual output, e.g. Nazism; Leninism.
