A great many influential thinkers have been co-opted into ideologies far, far removed from their own stances on pretty much anything.

I'm sometimes glad I'm just an unknown Twitter user. I'd be quite unhappy to see my ideas used to defend ideas I abhor.

My reading list is full of thinkers whose works have been paraded by major ideologies. I expect very low correlation w/said ideologies.

The only cases where correlation seems likely is where the founders of the ideology also led its intellectual output, e.g. Nazism; Leninism.

Maybe just think of such as feedback providing impetus to refine your ideas for their next iteration

Nah, unscrupulous people will use any authority they can to justify their petty views. It's rarely feedback - it's mostly exploitation.
