Meditating exclusively on emotions with a negative valence (a la @cuttingmachine_) definitely helped a bit, but not sufficient in itself.

Maybe there was a massive loss of identification with a self that is fearful. Take what you got and run with it!

Definitely a key part. Not sure if I have anything to add that hasn't been covered by the big traditions, but I'd like to share w/others.

A lot of insight meditation and mental discipline exercises definitely helped. 'Thinking' (babbling internally) less helps a lot w/fear.

The stoics captured one thing better than most traditions: when in doubt, try your best and don't give a fuck.
