Good point. Which seems to go against the earlier point of Maslow, though. The exact source of stress is the anticipation of unmet needs...

As for Maslow, I mention him in the current book to note that it is not a hierarchy. People put self actualization over lower stuff, etc...

i don't think hierarchy model is perfect but ppl who don't know where next meal is coming from usually aren't pondering self-actualization

doesn't it make intuitive sense that when physical/physiological struggle is removed, ppl discover a whole new host of internal struggles?

countless depressed ppl in West aren't under chronic stress. they're comfortable, they just don't know what to do w themselves

their depression arises from a sense of a lack of meaning. they have no struggle and inventing their own purpose is overwhelming

if they weren't working 40 hours a week at a shit job, they might find some purpose IF that didn't also mean poverty, which it does.

i'm thinking more of housewives and young ppl supported by parents. don't need jobs, still depressed bc no struggle/lack of purpose

> housewives
> no struggle
Don't put those two together in front of any woman with kids, or you're liable to get slapped. Fair warning.

Heheheheh. I could feel my wife's spirit reaching out to strangle you. Thought it best to intervene. ;)
