Good point. Which seems to go against the earlier point of Maslow, though. The exact source of stress is the anticipation of unmet needs...

As for Maslow, I mention him in the current book to note that it is not a hierarchy. People put self actualization over lower stuff, etc...

i don't think hierarchy model is perfect but ppl who don't know where next meal is coming from usually aren't pondering self-actualization

doesn't it make intuitive sense that when physical/physiological struggle is removed, ppl discover a whole new host of internal struggles?

Most of the people in the world working self-realization are Indian Sadhus who don't know if they'll eat today.

Most of my deep work was done while jobless, severely depressed, close to broke, stranded in a foreign country with no friends... was good.

Most people down that path I've met had a stress they had no choice but to deal with. But it's not a mass solution, imo.

Of course not, but it directly contradicts the notion that you need to eat before you meditate. :P
you don't _have_ to, but most starving ppl in the world don't give a fuck about meditation. they give a fuck where their next meal is

Sure. And entire cultures have poor people they worship. Including the West for about a 1,000 years. Model both. :)
