Not my experience at all. And I've done a ton of suffering and a ton of cultivation and been poor as hell while working hard.

Mh. A lot of this stuff has more to do with acute vs. chronic stress more than Maslow.
Acute stress is good for you. Chronic stress kills.
We have managed to institutionalize and massively increase chronic stress, while taking out many natural, spontaneous, acute stressors.

Acute stress which you /handle/ is good for you. If you don't, it isn't.

If the lion eats you, yeah...
Most acute stressors are too small to be bad, but increase fitness. We've cut vast amounts of those as well.
