It's definitely the better option, but requires training or aptitude. Most people revert to fight/flight/freeze, even if learned/smart.

Certainly. Military/medical training instills proper attitude. Some basic safety training would serve better than most public schooling.

From knowing those guys, I doubt if they'd have reacted as fast if they hadn't had that. Only a minority have the aptitude.

The unfortunates are the ones who are heroic of bent but lack both training and sense. Those almost always get killed making things worse.
