The success of a lot of work, esp. inner work, is predicated on having resistance to work against. Without that, it's hard to find traction.

Have you read any Robert Anton Wilson? Prometheus Rising is an amazing book, lots of great stuff on stages of consciousness development

He's rather anti-authority, incl. spiritual authority, and talks about walking your own path. He outlines a great map though.
