It's the first one I've seriously tried, but it was disappointing. Total War also steadily declining... turn-based strategy when? :(

Civ IV and V are good games, and worth your time. It's not turn based, but I've enjoyed Stellaris (real time pausable)

The biggest problem I have there is finding time. MOBAs or RPGs can at least be enjoyed for an hour at a time. Parenting is a bitch.
