Meditation does different things for different people. For me, it taught me to feel anger clearly.
I was taught to suppress it as a child.

As a child, I had an uncontrollable anger. I was picked on, but I beat the bullies to a pulp. My parents got scared. They told me to let go.

So for years, I was left utterly unable to defend myself or people I cared about from abuse. It was terrible. It destroyed years of my life.

My parents are good, well-intentioned people. They never neglected me or failed me willingly.
But I doubt I'll ever fully forgive them.

Self-control is critical in our world. But suppression is not control.
Don't teach people to suppress their genuine feelings. Terrible!

I can feel it. I can control it better than most. I can hold it on a tight leash or let go.

I learned this because it grew into an abomination beyond control. I -had- to reel it in, or I'd probably kill someone.

Meditation teaches awareness. Awarness precipitates control. Control precipitates stability.
Teach awareness, not ignorance.

I no longer live at home, but next time I'm there my parents are due a confrontation with a very angry, very controlled son.
