A guy considered a friend tried to destroy my reputation after a falling out, going to painstaking lengths to accomplish it (but failing).

The same guy also introduced me to a lot of cool music, films etc. - even introduced me to one of my main hobbies. Should I have quit that?

No. Fuck that guy. I'll milk every good thing I can out of his "friendship". He wasted enough of my time. Why let him have anything else?

If we avoid the best things from the worst people in our lives, because it's somehow "tainted", we only lose from those relationships.

Some of the most instructive experiences in my life came from people I would never want to meet again. Being "safe" from that is a trap.
