Royal houses of tiny kingdoms like Norway took the cleverest path to cleave to symbolic power and pampered seclusion - they made themselves small and inoffensive enough that you could almost be forgiven for forgetting about them.

Much the same story with the entrenched families of power in the US. When the wind finally changes, they'll still believe themselves protected, exalted above all others. Curious to see if this happens in my own lifetime.
