We are well into the "elites bail out and try to run away with the bag" stage of our society.
Elites always forget that the bag has a hole in the bottom and they need the people they're stealing it from to fill it.
They will break their own foundations in their lust for more.

Totalitarian downward pressures aren't just a sign of budding technocratic dystopia, but also a sign that elites have milked the cows too aggressively and are starting to get desperate.
Highly unlikely that we are still living in this same society in a few decades.
