Truth is it doesn't have to be, much like "indentured servants are private property" doesn't have to be a "genuinely" libertarian stance in order for many libertarians to take it.

Most everyone is capable of justifying themselves based on their ideals and vilifying others based on their actions.
This is how "we, the Good Guys," can be a universally held perspective even during total war.

If your own side doing Bad doesn't bother you and cause a reaction, you are not, in fact, Good.
So almost nobody is. Just like fewer than half of us are above-average drivers, not the 90% of mostly deluded self-aggrandizers who report themselves to be.
