The most unnerving change with the gradual fading of my partisan tendencies is that I now love almost everyone, fundamentally, as individuals. This causes a lot of embarassment, including realizing I no longer hate people I have been very committed to hating fr the longest time.

It is never constructive to hate someone Though it's a useful tool to have in your arsenal, because it can help keep that person from doing you more harm When their capacity to cause damage has faded, then letting go of lingering hatred is a good idea. Tho maybe not before then.

Do they then deserve hatred, or pity? Sorrow, for potential misspent? Rage at the heavens, for letting corruption abound? Such individuals are indeed numerous, but the notion of what one deserves is an internal judgment, not an external fact. A mercy... according to who?

I was not being literal about the hatred part. According to me, of course. You are free to disagree with that interpretation. It's a fairly extreme hypothetical, but luckily I have never knowingly met anyone like that. It would be a rare affliction.
