Good point. Maybe it’s the difference between pushing something down (punishing, crushing, hiding) and letting it go out and away to nowhere. Perhaps out a window.

The crushing I’m referring to is very unpleasant and unhealthy. The sending out and away might be best described as letting the traces blow away after any necessary integration is done
I might be using inaccurate terms though. I’m not well-read on this.

Burning stuff isn't clean. It gets ashes and smoke everywhere. But then it blows away.

Point being: it, too, is unpleasant, but healthy, like throwing up from food poisoning.
yes, I feel like this is an accurate metaphor for that particular experience
