Thank you for the kind words! I largely just start out polite and amicable and then grey rock everything if he starts being pushy at all. Totally noncommital, disinterested. Maybe it gives the impression I'm distracted or stupid, but I don't respect his opinion enough to care.

That's true. I'm sorry about your mom. She might never change, but she may realize her worth and wake up to the insidious reality of abuse one day. Either way is hard. You kind of just get better at letting people become who they choose to be.... it's hard for sure. I'm sorry.

oh my, sorry you're experiencing that. That's exactly what my mum tells me and my siblings when we were growing up... but at least we were a family. Step family was rare in SG olden days. Not to be an alarmist, I've heard the rate of abuse is higher in step family 🤔
