There are healthy forms of self-control and then no shortage of ways we've been taught to block ourselves up and cause problems.
Sometimes it can take a while to understand which is which.

And then there are those problems which are relational, a mismatch between you and environment, that may never go away unless dealt with.
It is very easy to conflate these.
