watched ah boys to men 1 and 2 for the first time a couple of days ago and i was kinda surprised by how much both plots were driven by t o x i c masculinity.

I gather from the screencaps it's something to do with boys "becoming men" in the context of military training? Feels like we have innumerable institutions for turning boys into "men" in some fetishist sense - killers, laborers, academics - but none for learning to be a man.

I got really good priming from my mother and none/negative from my father. Was an idiot in this area for a long time. Only got the tools to do better when I met an English pub rat (note: not a rationalist subtype) who helped give me the tools to develop as man.

The entire field feels sort of like cultural black matter - its existence is implied but never glimpsed. Yet all these other things are not turning boys into men. They help boys cosplay men, badly, in specialized areas, but if anything they stunt your development elsewhere.

Clearly there is a need for healthy, courageous masculinity, a real shortage, but mostly it's women talking about this. And then the guys who are themselves saying nothing complain about having feminine standards imposed on them. Well where are the masculine ones, then?

I think visa mentioned this before. The ones who get it are off doing their own things rather than talking about it be it masculinity or getting laid. For example, Dan Bilzerian hasn't been accused of any sexual offence as compared to feminist-wannabe - a few lessons there.

Truth. The best things I have done as a man I tend to keep quiet about, partly because they are sensitive topics. You'd mostly hear it when some preening, performance-presenting prick attempts to criticize me for "not caring about" some issue I have invested real blood in.

Sometimes, though, I wonder if this is a mistake and I shouldn't speak up more. A lot of really corrosive cultural memes have free reign.
