And Visa is very much on point: pathological self-loathing is a feature of many narcissistic disorders, a shield that prevents real growth. The voice saying "you're terrible, nobody will ever love you, you should just die," is the *same* voice encouraging selfish obliviousness.

Without essentializing every bad behavior into a crystallized self-image, you are forced to reckon with them as practical choices. Ironically, not taking it personally makes it personal.
