Feels like efficiency, in the broadest sense, is massively overrated.
In some contexts you need to maximize resource management, but a lot of the time for things to actually work under any level of strain, you need redundancy.
Systems without slack break at a moment's notice.

A thing it took me until /this year/ to learn. Sigh.
I thought if I were more efficient I'd be able to get more done, but turns out I just made everything more difficult for myself, oops.

In the context of people it's even more applicable. Humans have lots of odd quirks in performance that aren't even universalizable.
E.g. I have AWFUL time efficiency when working, but can make up for it with extremely high energy potential when I am engaged in something.
