Sort of wondering why most discussions around talent, doing quality work, work ethic and lacks in any of these areas tend to be so unsophisticated. Feels like in general, any serious reckoning with overcoming mental blocks is either trivialized ("just do it") or exaggerated.

Pretty sure you don't need to be insanely smart, lucky, born into a rich family with a trust fund or else privileged to do good work. Also pretty sure that when people don't just "do the work", it's for serious reasons, but many of those reasons can be resolved.

Definitely! I had problem with my coding task today and if the advice was just do it, I'd be doomed! I was slowed by hesitation bc I didn't understand what was going on, and I wasn't confident how to ascertain completeness. Framed in these terms, it's a lot easier to tackle

TON of ego involved. From folks not wanting to do the doing, gets in the way of 1. Accepting their own ego (most can’t even get beyond the word itself, let alone that THEY have 1 blocking them), and 2, understanding they have it within them & it’s not all “the outside’s” fault.

From folks who advise, no empathy or understanding of what it is like to feel absolutely helpless. “Just do it” far easier said than done when you feel you’re living in a pit of despair.
