This was my first ever charcoal drawing. The difference between the top-left and final image was simply that I used the technique of standing back to see both subject and canvas side-by-side. Which I knew from the theory of “sight-size” (best accuracy technique).

Can also be both simultaneously. That said, I never trust people who are really, really good at something on their word when it comes to best practices. It's not about honesty/dishonesty, but replicability. The standard is to prove that others can do it, not that you can.

I had a bit of a wake-up call when I realized the difference between Things I Can Do and Things I Can Teach in meditation was yuge. However, I got to a huge amount of those Things through just persistently muddling through - i.e. practice. Often unstructured practice, at that.
