I don't think anyone has any business recommending psychedelics for the same reason I don't think we should just surgically remove latent inhibition.
The effects run the gamut from massive increase in creativity and insight through to full-blown schizophrenia. Risky business.

You can't know what's going on behind your filters until you drop them.
Even if your subjective experience is somehow an unmitigated good, there is no guaranteeing that someone else will share that.

For me personally, they've run the full gamut from heaven through to hell (or usually, the other order of occurrence).
I'd hazard a guess that a lot of people would experience only the latter.
