Is it just me or did the US Left get a lot more effective more or less the day they gave up on running a decent candidate this election?

Feeling like this is always a tension within leftism, viewed broadly.
The fundamental values of most left-wing movements are subverted by the acquisition of actual meaningful power, through the corruptibility of individuals and institutions.
This doesn't seem in any way solved.

I think the tension between movements and institutions is well solved in theory by #dualpower as articulated by

And it is partially solved in practice by the emerging municipalist citizen platforms

There's a polarity b/w grassroots and institutional power.
The trick is not to choose one or the other but to be awake to the risk and to manage the tension, eg by making "extitutions", institutions turned inside-out so they're accountable to the grassroots.
