People talk about how virtuous it is to not have an ego Why tho? Here's why: ego makes you be in denial about your level of skill. It bottlenecks your skill development by not allowing you to give yourself the feedback you need at your level. Basically, ego or slope, choose one.

The people who talk the loudest about not having egos are pretty consistently utter egomaniacs, though.
It's almost like not having an ego is a non-goal.

Snark aside, I think there are much more fruitful avenues in cultivating interpersonal humility and respect.
The notion that we can just drop the ego, or that this is needed, somewhat overplays and even feeds the ego. It's not that big a deal.
