had an ex who apparently put together this elaborate, public display to ask a girl to homecoming
he knew she didn't like him and he did it intentionally to pressure her so she'd say yes
he was clearly proud of this
she bailed on him as soon as they got to the dance

basically just don't do this unless you KNOW the person likes you and likes public romantic gestures 😬

More generally, why does a private matter like a proposal have to be public, like, ever?
If you want to make it a show, you can even do it after you've agreed privately. What the hell.
(I understand other public romantic gestures, but maybe less life-changing ones...?)
