I mean, I know people are lazy - but the ease with which we block out any information that would force us to learn something is pretty impressive.

It's not even about being lazy, more of an expectation that "These people have been trained to do this. They must know something that I don't."

My MIL keeps asking me to "teach her" every new piece of software, even though we both have zero experience with it. I think that's because she's a teacher, and in her world people don't just figure stuff out on their own, someone must spoon-feed it to them.
