When you see the way people (ordinary people, not powerful organizations) treat the authors of actual solid journalistic work, it's no wonder the profession is flush with sociopathic hacks and useful idiots.
To say it's a thankless job is a massive understatement.

Most jobs that should involve some element of speaking the truth are like this. People prefer pretty (and petty) lies.
