Like, I'm sure somebody would do it if they were sufficiently extrinsically motivated, but for the average user it would quickly be a chore.

I both agree and disagree; being prolific is good because there are certain things you can't learn from working on a single project, but there is a mindset/style where you just stop learning and start churning
