vocal lessons this morning have been a trip

got really really great feedback about our performance at our recital and, especially having an intention lately to more deeply receive it when Iβm appreciated by others, it was big and emotional for me to feel like a valued member of our lol vocal team

worked through a lot of facial tension during warm up and I always feel really seen by ny vocal teacher, she could tell Iβm getting a post-semester cold already & my head voice is offline. as a kid, parents et al often missed if I was sick, needed glasses, etc. so it means a lot

sang Royals by Lorde bc it came to mind as something to avoid my head voice and my vocal teacher was so excited she wanted to show me another Lorde song she would be really excited to hear me sing bc itβs rare that her female students have a strong enough lower register for it

I just started bawling, it hit way too close to home. I pulled myself together to sing once through another song (I Will Follow You Into the Dark π€) but as soon as my session was done I was very messed up open.spotify.com/track/6Kkt27Ym

it is so good and if I can habituate myself to it emotionally enough for my voice not to crack I could sing it really beautifully, it was a brilliant vocal rec for me but oh. my. heart.

Making me want to take up lessons again, here. Been about a decade.
Singing all these songs sung by women that I enjoy so very much, in my dark bass-baritone, sounds pretty hilarious.

I love covers like that, thereβs something I canβt put my finger on about it that really satisfies me when songs get gender swapped

Double whammy genre/gender swap for maximum absurdity-induced delightful dissonance!
