Fun side-effect of leaving your home country for other countries where English is also a second language: My English is better than ever, but very clearly non-native. My Norwegian is complete garbage. Just awful. Worst it's ever been. Just as displaced in language as in land.

I know more names of kitchen appliances in Polish than in English. My active vocabulary in English is about two standard deviations (i.e. a lot) better than my Norwegian. Identity is a very slippery concept...

I was born in Poland and still live here but my Polish isn't good at all 🤣 At home we communicate in a weird mix of Polish, English, and our own made up words, and then it's super hard to switch to how regular people talk.
