My passive knowledge of Polish had vastly exceeded my practiced competence, and this just wasn't finding an avenue of expression anywhere. Now, I feel like I may be pretty much fluent within a couple of months, at the current rate of learning.

Keeping my fingers crossed! It's always hard for me to believe that someone might actually choose to learn Polish. This language is a tangled mess of billion grammar rules and even more exceptions. If I were an expat in Poland I probably wouldn't bother 😅

As for personal reasons, I'm forced to deal with the Polish legal system for the next 15 years or so. And while the ex-wife speaks English, her family doesn't. AND I hate having lived here for so long without exceeding ~B1-level proficiency. AND it opens more Slavic. AND...

Hahahah it all depends who's trying to learn 😄 I gave up on Korean while living in Korea, but my Chinese friends found it super easy. There's a lot of folks living comfortably in Warsaw without speaking any Polish, so I really admire anyone who tries to learn it anyway.

Sure, but try living in Kielce for 3 years without any Polish! ~A2 level proficiency was a bare necessity for survival, but insufficient for making real friends.
