I think I fell into the trap of buying into surface appearances, when critical thought about the underlying substance and quality was really needed instead (not to say that there aren't smart people in the lab! sure there are plenty)

I haven't actually seen many Big Thoughts come from these places. I saw a discussion on Twitter about the Media Lab, and it appears they've produced some things. But do they qualify as Big Thought? I'll leave that as an open question. I haven't seen it, but I don't entirely know

the way I'm reframing it now: Chasing after the image is a trap - it's a hollow pursuit and a hollow achievement; I've gotten there a couple times. Evoke/summon gratitude, be content in the consistency. (Thinking of it as a training arc also helps 😂)

Previously, I didn't just have an idealised self, there was also a simplified, idealised reality that I escaped to because avoidance was my pattern. But try holding onto that- you'll just end up with a confusing mix of smoke and dust in your hands
