The key is that particular unit of anger is spent. Plus now you can actually get angry when needed!
Kind of a big relief, no?

An hour a day of pretty much any kind of meditation will loosen repressed emotional material.
The 20 minute "feeling out* is meant to slowly vent off that material specifically to stop destructive explosions. It's clear that even that slow venting is destabilising people.

Maybe it should be 5 days on 2 days off. Or long breaks twice or thrice a year...
*something*
it's all experimental. Has to be. Our culture is insane.

Have you checked out some of the recent somatic therapies for dealing w/trauma?
Seems like supplementing the meditation with that would be a good idea for those of us who get big emotional fireworks.

I haven't but I'm very keen to. You mentioned some earlier. Can you recommend good ones? I've done therapy on and off. I find having the cash to engage coaches difficult. Issue is compounded by the fact that my relationship with money is challenging and I don't prioritize myself

EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) seems to show good results. Has the benefit of being fairly limited-duration as well.
Then you have psychomotor therapy, which I know little about, but which is endorsed by Bessel van der Kolk.
Somatic Experiencing is basically an elaboration of the emotional processing step with some additional help w/calming, elicitation and reaction.
Seems theoretically sound, and is pretty close to how I self-treat. Plan to check it out if I move near a practitioner.
