Pretending there is one big, unified "left" carries water for left authoritarians and fascists.
Left authoritarians: "look, this is the will of the people, man. Public executions of yuppies are the way forward."
Fascists: "Look at these loons. What, nothing to see over here..."

It's frustrating that people are so keen on word-thinking and self-labeling that you can create any fictitious concept at all and get followers.
Even ones that do nothing but harm.
