So would you say the chatter originates in a part of you that is not at peace with your inevitable death?

"awareness" of suffering and its causes does not remove one from it or its effects. this is the conundrum at the crossroads one reaches on the path.

Don't think you are talking about the same thing!
I believe Gregory is talking about a quality of awareness, cultivated e.g. with mahamudra, which is indeed free from suffering. You can fit the smaller awareness into it, too.
My understanding here is incomplete, though. On/off.

I'm in a very annoying state - hopefully a transition! - where I am sort of there most of the time, but some things aren't integrated.
Said things are mostly also extremely bothersome personal problems (and whatever is keeping those fuelled), so it's sort of hellish/heavenly.

Mostly have no mental chatter at all, just a few problem-solving thoughts and deliberately enticed thoughts.
But all the chatter that *is* there? It's really, really bad.

mine's mostly electronically (online) induced. other than that? pretty quiet in here.

Funnily, mine is mostly low-grade personal bullshit. Petty problems, not existential or global ones. I feel completely surrendered to those.
Wonder what will happen to the ol' mind if I get some trauma-informed therapy (or MDMA)...
just another window to glance thru; tho i've read anecdotaly that assisted mdma can be surgical.

Not so anecdotal anymore considering it's in phase 3 testing!
