The things a programmer is certain of diminishes with experience. The remaining certain things are soft, rarely about technology, and are distinct from personal preference. The most experienced are happy to adopt another’s preferences so long as the certainties are aligned.

It's just fascinating to me how programmers seem to be one of few groupings to actively discuss this stuff with real interest. About on par with athletes in engagement on that. Far ahead of most other professionals, AFAICT.

As we can learn a great deal from other professions, so they can learn from us. I think it’s the shear complexity of what we are trying to manage that forces us to reflect, perhaps more than others? I’m not certain.

Mmh. Meditation is more my wheelhouse, and there is a great deal of similarity there as well - contingency of outcomes and standpoints, etc. But it seems to be almost random which fields this occurs in. Other fields where metatheory would be excellent to have, but isn't present.
