People force chickens into tiny enclosures in huge groups so they eat away all plants and bugs.
Pecking order becomes about basic access to food instead of first dibs on the good bits. Antisocial habits like cannibalism may also develop.

I knew a woman who let her chickens go semi feral. They started to look like game cocks. She lent a Rooster to the farm I worked at. He was not rapey at all and had a special call when he saw a hawk.

Some roosters are a bit rapey. Seems to be genetic. But yeah, they are very noble creatures under naturalesque circumstances.
